Dropshipping Profit Calculator (2026)

Defaults based on real data from 26,500+ Dropbuild client stores
All Posts

Use this calculator to see what your dropshipping store can realistically earn after all costs.Unlike revenue calculators that ignore ad spend and fees, this one subtracts everything: product costs, shipping, ads, Shopify's monthly subscription, and Shopify's per-sale processing fees.

The default values are based on averages across 26,500+ Shopify stores we have built at Dropbuild since 2017. They represent a realistic early-stage dropshipping store, not an inflated best-case scenario. Adjust them to match your own product, niche, and ad costs.

How to Use This Calculator

Each input represents a real line item in a dropshipping P&L. Here is what each one means:

  • Selling price per product: What the customer pays you.
  • Supplier fees (product + shipping): The total you pay your supplier per order, including both the product itself and shipping to the customer. On AliExpress, CJ Dropshipping, or Zendrop this is usually $15 to $30 combined.
  • Ad cost per sale (CPA): Your Facebook/TikTok/Google ad spend divided by conversions. A realistic number for new stores is $8-$15. Stores with weak creatives can see CPAs of $25+.
  • Monthly orders: How many sales you expect per month. 100 orders is a realistic early-stage target.

The calculator automatically adds the Shopify Basic plan ($29/month) and Shopify Payments processing fees (2.9% + 30¢ per sale). If you are on a higher plan, your processing fees are slightly lower, so your actual profit will be a bit higher than what the calculator shows.

What the Numbers Tell You

The most important output is your net profit margin. Here is how to read it:

  • Under 10%: Danger zone. No buffer for returns, chargebacks, or ad cost increases. Fix the model before scaling.
  • 10-20%: Workable but fragile. You need tight control over ads and returns.
  • 20-30%: Healthy. You can absorb normal business variance and reinvest in growth.
  • 30%+: Excellent. Usually requires a premium brand, high-ticket products, or very efficient ads.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does this dropshipping profit calculator work?
Enter your selling price, product cost from the supplier, shipping cost per order, average ad cost per sale (CPA), and expected monthly orders. The calculator then subtracts all your costs, including Shopify Payments processing fees and the $29 Basic plan, to show your real monthly and annual net profit.
What is a good profit margin for dropshipping?
20% net profit margin or higher, after all costs (product, shipping, ads, Shopify fees, returns). Under 10% is a red flag because it leaves no buffer for returns, chargebacks, or ad cost increases. Most successful Dropbuild stores operate in the 20% to 35% net margin range.
Where do the default values come from?
The default values (selling price $49, product cost $14, shipping $6, CPA $12, 100 orders/month) are based on averages across the 26,500+ Shopify stores Dropbuild has built since 2017. They represent a realistic early-stage store, not a best-case scenario. Your actual numbers will vary based on niche, product, and ad performance.
Does this include Shopify fees?
Yes. The calculator automatically includes the $29/month Basic plan subscription and the 2.9% + 30¢ Shopify Payments processing fee on every sale. If you are on a higher plan (Grow at $79 or Advanced at $299) your processing fees are slightly lower, so your actual profit will be slightly higher than what the calculator shows.
What costs are NOT included in the calculator?
Paid apps (typically $50-$200/month), premium themes (one-time $100-$380), domain registration (~$15/year), chargebacks, returns, and your own salary. These are harder to estimate, but they can reduce your net profit by another 5% to 10%. Budget for them separately.
